Paper - a Renewable Resource

Paper is made from a renewable and recyclable resource (timber) and is
itself a recyclable product. More than 60 per cent of the fibre used to
make paper in Australia is sourced from recycled fibre.
More than a quarter of the energy used by the paper industry comes from
renewable energy sources, including from waste produced from the papermaking
process itself, and a further 40 per cent of its energy requirements are
met by natural gas.
Its sustainably-managed forest resource base provides for a range of
values, including greenhouse gas and salinity abatement, land management
and biodiversity.
Paper is part of an integrated carbon cycle, as once consumed and collected,
it starts a new life as a secondary raw material or biofuel.
