Buying Recycled

An important step in completing the recycling loop is to purchase recycled-content products. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention has created publications to help government agencies increase their purchases of recycled-content products.

The Directory of Ohio Vendors of Recycled Products lists hundreds of recycled-content items available from Ohio suppliers.

When state agencies "buy recycled" they support the markets for materials that are collected in recycling programs at home and in the workplace. Using recycled-content products conserves natural resources, reduces waste and extends the life of our landfills. During the past five years, state agencies purchased about $11.5 million worth of recycled-content products.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources knows better than any other state agency the importance of buying recycled. During the past five years, ODNR has accounted for almost $2.7 million, or 23%, of all state agency purchases.
