Field activities
Millions
of construction activities in the field, which may result in local impacts
on visual amenity, waste generation including spoil and packaging, and
travel.
Transport
- Telstra uses and maintains approximately 20,000 vehicles and mechanical
aids, using more than 70 million litres of fuel and producing around
165,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.
Mobile networks
- Telstra has approximately 5,000 base stations and 1,000 microcells,
which have visual impacts and consume energy, resulting in more than
5 billion minutes of customer conversation.
Emissions and wastes
- Telstra's networks, sites, vehicles and mechanical aids produce around
1.2 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions
- Telstra has approximately 40,000 staff producing around 157,000 m3
of general waste to landfill.
Office activities
- Approximately 40,000 staff use more than 680,000 reams of office paper,
of which around 25,000 m3 is recycled.
Land use and amenity
- Telstra has around 11,000 network and non-network sites requiring
operation and maintenance, with the resulting energy and material use
and waste generation
- Telstra's 30,000 payphones are visible in streetscapes across Australia.
