How are Textiles Recycled?
Textile Recycling process

Clothing bank
Clothes sorting
Clothes in bales
Large bales

1. Donated items of clothing are collected from the clothing banks by small vans. When the van becomes too full it is emptied into a large lorry trailer.

2. When these trailers are full they are taken to a central factory where conveyor belts transport the clothes to be sorted.  The clothing is sorted by hand into over 100 different types and grades.

3. Clothes which can be worn again are put into bales and loaded into big containers to be sent all over the UK and the world!

4. Items which can't be worn are taken away to be recycled for manufacturing of wipers or fibre reclamation. These are compressed into even larger bales weighing nearly 500 kilograms each.
