Things to do at home

  1. Make a list of all the different types of things in your house that are made of paper, or contain paper.

  2. Do your parents read the newspapers? Collect all the newspapers and magazines that your family uses in a week, and weigh them on a set of kitchen or bathroom scales. How much paper does your family use in a week?  Can you work out how much you would use in a month? How about a year?

  3. How strong is paper? Using only a roll of sticky tape and some used sheets of paper, make a structure which can be tested for strength.  Try piling magazines or books on top to see how many it will hold before collapsing!
(Hint: Try folding or rolling the paper into different shapes to increase its strength)
  4.
