Saving Water at Home, continued
In The Garden:
- Make sure you only water
your garden when it really needs it.
- Water
your garden slowly so that it can absorb the moisture, and never
water on a windy day.
- During the hotter months,
water your garden early in the morning or late in the evening to
decrease evaporation.
- Add mulch or compost to your
garden so that the water soaks in and doesn’t just run off
or evaporate.
- Use a drip water system rather
than a sprinkler for garden bed plants.
- Grow
native plants that need less watering in summer.
- Use
a timer where possible to avoid over watering.
- Most
water is wasted on lawns. If you allow the lawn to go brown over
summer, it will quickly return to green in the fall. If you really
want to
water the lawn in summer to keep it green, don’t over water
- it only needs watering when the grass does not spring back if
you step
on it.
