Sustainable Forestry

In many parts of the world, governments are passing new laws to protect old-growth forests from being cut down. There are also things we can do at home to help preserve native forests and support sustainable forestry practices:

  • Use less paper — only print out things on your computer that you need to and try to alway use recycled paper or reused scrap paper. Remember that recycling your waste paper also saves trees.
  • Buy things with less packaging — many items today come wrapped in unnecessary layers of paper and cardboard packaging.
  • Remember that a lot of the timber we use is imported from other countries - buying recycled wood and paper products and buying timber from certified sustainable suppliers ensures that you don't support unsustainable forestry in these countries either.
