Agriculture in the United States

Whilst producing food and fiber for us to use, farmers in the United States have to manage a number of problems if they want their farms to be productive over many years. These include dealing with:

• droughts, floods and wildfires;
• pests like feral animals, weeds, insects and disease; and
• environmental problems like salinity, soil erosion and poor water quality.

You can help support local farmers by buying American, and especially local, produce. You can also get involved by contacting your local Department of Agriculture or environmental group to find out how you can participate in tree planting days and other programs that help care for our land and waterways.
