Sustainability isn’t just about the environment

Sustainability is about acting fairly so that everyone can live well. This means caring for other people even in other countries and by sharing our resources fairly.

Some of the most polluted places in the world are also some of the poorest. But people in poorer countries have just as much right to clean air, clean water, food and warmth as people in richer countries.

In the past, richer countries have sometimes used land in poorer countries to dump their waste. This is not sustainable, as it just moves the problem somewhere else, instead of solving it. By thinking about how our actions affect others, we can improve other people’s lives, and our own.
