Beverage Cartons, continued

There are two different types of beverage cartons:

1. Gable top Cartons

These cartons are the regular milk and juice cartons found in the refrigerated section of your grocery store. They are made mostly of paperboard covered on each side by a layer of thin plastic. This plastic is called polyethylene and protects the paper from getting wet.

2. Aseptic Cartons

These cartons are made from mostly paperboard plus fine layers of polyethylene (plastic) and a very fine layer of aluminum. They don’t need to be refrigerated, as the contents are sterilized and fully sealed in the carton. They are used for packaging liquids like juices, long life milk, sauces and soups. Sometimes aseptic cartons are known as "drink boxes".
