Beverage CartonsBeverage cartons, used for packaging liquid food, are made from mostly paper, plus fine layers of plastic, called polyethylene. Aseptic cartons also contain a very fine layer of aluminum, which helps extend the food’s shelf life by keeping out oxygen and light. The aluminum barrier also eliminates the need for preservatives. In some areas, cartons can be put in the recycling bin with cans, glass and plastic containers for curbside collection. In other areas they can be put in the recycling bin with mixed paper for curbside collection. Some areas require that they be taken to a drop-off center. Check with your local recycling coordinator or recycling processing center first to see if beverage cartons can be recycled in your neighborhood.
