Recycling Computers, continuedComputers can also be recycled by taking them apart, and reusing or recycling the parts. Circuit boards, chips, batteries and fans can all be taken out and reused to build new computers. Valuable metals, including gold, silver, copper and aluminum can be extracted through recycling, along with plastics and glass. Computers, monitors, scanners, printers, cables and other computer accessories can all be recycled. Laptop and notebook computer batteries can also be recycled. Many computer manufacturers now operate take-back or trade-in programs for recycling old computers. Contact your local recycling program officer or computer manufacturer to find out your nearest drop-off point.
