Large scale Composting

Compost is sometimes made on a large scale by companies. Huge volumes of organic material like timber waste, is broken up and put into tall piles to rot. The companies use big machines to turn over the rotting material until it becomes compost. It is then bagged for sale and sold at nurseries, supermarkets and building supply stores.

Did you know that biodegradable plastics have been developed that can be composted too! This means that in some composting programs, both food waste and disposable tableware from restaurants and events can be composted together.
