Saving Water at Home, continued
Outside The House
- When you wash your car use a bucket and sponge and not a running
hose.
- Try to wash your car on the grass, to water the lawn at the same
time.
- When you clean your driveway use a broom or rake and not a running
hose.
- Place a cover over the swimming pool to reduce water loss through
evaporation.
General Tips
- Check all water taps for leaks. Fixing these leaks both inside
and outside will save large amounts of water and money each year.
- Read your water bill carefully and understand your pattern of water
use. Carry out a water audit of the home and keep watching your water
bills to see if you have decreased the amount of water you use.
- When buying a water-using appliance, choose one with a high water
efficiency rating – the more “A”s it has, the more efficient it is.
If you need help, check the Water Services Association of Australia
website (www.wsaa.asn.au/about.html) to get information on the most
water efficient brands available. Another good site is www.savewater.com.au
– they have lots of information about both indoor and outdoor appliances.
