The Litter ProblemLitter can be dangerous – it attracts bacteria and pests, and can be a fire hazard. Some litter, like broken glass and syringes, can be very harmful to both people and animals. Litter is expensive – local councils spend a lot of money each year to clean up litter from our streets, parks, rivers and bushland. Most litter on our streets comes from people dropping rubbish onto the footpath and into gutters, and from people throwing rubbish out of car windows. Full rubbish bins also produce litter - litter can fall out or bins can be knocked over by animals.
