How to Reduce Your Ecological Footprint
The best way for richer countries to reduce their ecological footprint is for individuals to take
action at home. You can do this by Reducing, Reusing, Recycling and Rethinking:
Reduce
- Buy goods which have little or no packaging, when possible.
- Buy products that are durable – that is, they last a long time.
- Try to buy food which is locally grown, unprocessed and in-season.
- Grow your own vegetables and herbs if you have a back garden or
balcony.
- Only buy as much as you need
- Conserve energy in the home
- Conserve water in the home
- Think about how, when and where you travel, and try to spend less
time in your car.
- Buy products which are made using renewable resources and renewable
energy sources.
