Aerobic and Anaerobic Composting

Composting relies on bacteria to break down plant matter. The type of composting depends on which type of bacteria it is made with:

1. Aerobic bacteria need oxygen to break down organic material. Turning the compost regularly provides aerobic bacteria with oxygen.

2. Anaerobic bacteria lives in places where there is no oxygen. Anaerobic bacteria produces compost slower than aerobic bacteria. It may also become smelly.
