Geothermal Energy

Geothermal power stations use the natural heat from underground rocks in volcanic areas to heat water which then produces electricity.

Biomass Energy and Fuel

Biomass energy comes from rotting plant and animal material! In landfills and special sites, methane – the gas produced in this natural process - is collected and burned to produce energy. Creating biomass energy is a good way to use up waste as fuel. Sugarcane waste, woodchips, seaweed and animal waste can all be used in this way. Fermenting sugarcane or woodchips can also be used to produce alcohol. The liquid can then be used as a fuel to run cars.
